The cosmeceutical industry is an industry that combines pharmaceuticals with cosmetics. It is a high value-added industry that can increase added value by 50% to 500% compared to general cosmetics. There have been continuous demands from companies in Gwangju for the need for systematic nurturing.
In order to resolve this demand, Gwangju City, Chonnam National University Hospital, Gwangju Beauty and Cosmetic Industry Promotion Association, and Gwangju Techno Park stepped forward. First of all, Gwangju City plans to intensively support the “export-led cosmeceutical industry” through industry-university-industrial cooperation, so that local companies can lay the groundwork for entering the global market through technology development.
Chonnam National University Hospital Dermatology Department Professor Seong-Jin Kim, who was the subject speaker of the forum, organized an industry-university-industrial research task force under the supervision of Chonnam National University Hospital at the time of announcing “Business Direction for Fostering the Export-led Cosmeceutical Industry” to develop a plan for the promotion of the cosmeceutical industry. He said that he would present a specialized strategy and vision unique to the Gwangju region.
Jeon Il-seung, chairman of the Gwangju Beauty and Cosmetic Industry Promotion Association, said, “There is no infrastructure necessary for corporate growth in the region, so it is experiencing great difficulties in entering overseas markets. I ask you to become a growth ladder.”
In response, Gwangju Technopark Director Kim Seong-jin said, “The cosmetics industry has a 12.3% higher employment inducement coefficient than that of the manufacturing industry, and cosmetics are included in nine Korean items that will lead innovation in the global market.” “There are 159 cosmetic companies in Gwangju. As much as that, Gwangju Technopark will take an active role and build a support system that is practically necessary for the growth of the company.”
